Mnguember Vicky Sylvester Born December 9, 1960, is from Adikpo, Kwande Local government area of Benue State, Nigeria. She's a Nigerian academic, author, critic, gender activist, and a Professor of Literature at the University of Abuja. She is known for literary criticism and gender studies.[1] She has served as Chair in organizations including Women in Nigeria, National Association of Women Academics, Christian Women for Excellence and Empowerment in Nigerian Society, and member of several others. She contested for senate in 2015. She is a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters,[2]Nigeria Academy of Education and a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Authors.[3] Mnguember Vicky Sylvester has served as a judge for the Association of Nigerian Authors literary prizes, Students in Free Enterprise and Children's Fiction Prize for the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Literature Prize.[4]
Early life and education[edit]
Mnguember was born on December 9, 1960 in Gboko, Benue State. She was raised in Jos, Plateau State, where she finished high school. She proceeded to the University of Jos, and graduated with B.A. in English, which was followed by her National Youth Service Corps in Ibadan. Afterwards she further obtained a degree in literature from Bayero University Kano, and Ph.D in African literature in Jos.[5]
Career[edit]
Mnguember served as an assistant lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Abuja from 1995 to 1998. From 1998 to 2002, she became a full lecturer, and later as an Associate Professor in 2005, which she worked for three years before being promoted as a Professor of Literature in 2008.

Legacy and awards[edit]
Mnguember has been recognized for her contributions as an educator. The Association of Nigerian Authors created the 'Professor Mnguember Vicky Sylvester Short Story Prize' in February 2024.[11] She is also a member of the Nigerian Academy of Letters[12]
