The Uganda World War Cemeteries

Uganda World War Cemeteries is part of the Commonwealth world war graves housing the remains of the soldiers who died during the World Wars I and II. The cemeteries are managed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. There are four World War cemeteries in Uganda located in various parts of the country that is Tororo, Jinja, Entebbe, and Kampala.[1]

Kampala World War Cemetery[edit]

The Kampala World War Cemetery - better known as the Nakawa Road Cemetery - is one of two Commonwealth World War Grave cemeteries located in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.[2]

It has 26 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, with 19 soldiers from the East African Forces. It includes members of the Uganda Police. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission also cares for a war grave of an African soldier who served in the Force Publique of the Belgian Congo and died in 1942.[2]

Entebbe World War Cemetery[edit]

The "Entebbe World War Cemetery" is in Entebbe town, 900 meters from Victoria hotel. The cemetery has 4 Commonwealth burials.[3]

Tororo World War Cemetery[edit]

The Tororo World War Cemetery is one of Commonwealth World War Graves Commission cemeteries in Uganda. This cemetery is along the Tororo-Bugiri highway, having an area of 150 square meters. The cemetery has 159 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War and one burial from the First World War.[1][4]

Jinja World War Cemetery[edit]

The Jinja World War Cemetery is in Jinja City. It has one burial from the First World War and 179 burials and commemorations of the Second World War.[5][6][7][8]Two of the burials are unidentified and one soldier is commemorated by a special memorial.[5] The cemetery also contains four post war service graves. The cemetery has the JINJA MEMORIAL, which commemorates 127 men of the East African Forces who died during the Second World War but whose graves were so situated that maintenance for all time could not be assured.[5]
