Georgie Campbell (née Strang; 1986 or 1987 – 26 May 2024) was a British eventing rider.

Early life[edit]

Campbell started horse riding at an early age as her mother ran a livery yard and riding school.[1]

Career[edit]

Campbell started her equestrian career in Kent after having a number of successes with the Romney Marsh Pony Club.[2] In 2010 she debuted at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.[3] She competed in the top levels of eventing for many years, including the five-star Badminton and Burghley events.[4][5]

Personal life[edit]

Campbell married fellow equestrian rider Jesse Campbell in Ramsbury, Wiltshire in December 2020.[6] The couple lived in Marlborough, Wiltshire, until her death.[7] Her husband is a member of the New Zealand eventing team.[8][9]

Accident and death[edit]

Georgie Campbell suffered a fatal fall while competing at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England on 26 May 2024.

Campbell was immediately attended to by medical staff after falling at a fence but could not be saved. Riding on her horse Global Quest at the CC14*-S event, the incident took place at a log into the water at fence 5b, known as the Symonds & Sampson splash.[10][11] The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by the on-site vets and walked back to the stable uninjured.
