Ayegbayo Damola (born Dec 29, 1988) is a Nigerian contemporary visual artist and painter.[1][2][3][4]

He is Nigerian youngest largest Art holder with an estimated 1000 works of painting and visual arts and His artwork is displayed at the heart of Osun State capital as a Monumental picture to remember lost heroes.[5][6]

Early life and education[edit]

Ayegbayo was born in 1988 in Ejigbo, Osun State, Nigeria. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife with a Bachelor's in Education, from the Department of Fine and Applied Arts where he specialized in painting.[7]

Art Career History[edit]

Ayegbayo has the largest number of paintings and visual artworks in Osun State. He is a recognised artist with about 1000 artworks in his collections; some of his works have already been acquired by the state government and used as monuments.[8][9]

The name of his painting style is called ÀBÈFÉ meaning (pleaded to be loved) which is his native name. His works convey the power of the beauty of black African women, the reality of life, and morals through color and black beautiful women's faces.[10]

Ayegbayo Arts has been featured in Non-fungible token (NFT) international projects as the only African artist in the world of women NFT projects, Wayfair,[11] Target,[12] and Vincent van Gogh Nft project in partnership with Saatchi Art.[13][2]

He has held exhibitions in Nigeria, the US, the UK, Canada, and other European countries. His painting has been auctioned by art houses such as Jasper52, LiveAuctioneers,[14] and Bidhaus and bought by private collectors like Marcus Gardley, Jimmy Akingbola, Jean-Michel Basquiat sister Lisane Basquiat.[15][16]

In 2022, HarperCollins Publishers LLC , USA used his artwork "Unconditional love 2" on a popular book cover titled "Relations An Anthology of African and Diaspora Voices" and His work titled “Purpose of Existence” was used as a cover art for a campaign to support promoting black women's mental health by the Cambridge University Press United Kingdom.[5][3][17]

In 2023, His artwork “Vision of Hope” was used for a movie documentary “HANDLE WITH CARE” by Jimmy Akingbola.[4]

In 2024, he was nominated for the JOM Charity Awards and his style of painting is by using portraits of beautiful black women to speak to society about morals, good behavior, love, and unity.[1]

Ayegbayo was nominated for the ‘Black Is An Honour Awards’ in Rwanda and also the JOM Charity Awards for his contributions to African art.[8]
