The Fifth Federal Electoral District of Mexico City (V Distrito Electoral Federal de la Ciudad de México; previously "of the Federal District") is one of the 300 electoral districts into which Mexico is divided for the purpose of elections to the federal Chamber of Deputies and one of the 22 currently operational districts in Mexico City.[1]

It elects one deputy to the lower house of Congress for each three-year legislative period, by means of the first-past-the-post system.

District territory[edit]

Under the 2023 districting plan, which will be used for the 2024, 2027 and 2030 federal elections,[2] the Fifth District covers the southern, rural portion of the borough (alcaldía) of Tlalpan down to the border with the state of Morelos, similar to the area covered by the Fourteenth District in the 2008 scheme, together with the northwestern portion of Xochimilco.[3][1]

Previous districting schemes[edit]

Under the 2008 districting scheme, the Fifth District covered the northern portion of Tlalpan (i.e., most of the borough's urban areas).[4]

Between 1996 and 2005, the district covered the northern portion of the borough of Miguel Hidalgo.[5]
